WaSeaBi strongly represented at this year's WEFTA conference

Last week WaSeaBi partners presented at the 51st Western European Fish Technologists Association (WEFTA) Conference, which took place from 16-20 October 2023 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The theme for this year's conference was "Sustainable utilization of aquatic resources – changing the way we Seafood" – a theme fits very well with WaSeaBi and the project's purpose.

We are therefore very proud to share that the session on “Side streams for food and non-food products to reach zero waste production”, included no fewer than 7 presentations and 1 poster where partners disseminated WaSeaBi results.

Below you can see the titles of the presentations and poster:

  • Erasmo CADENA, Ghent University, Belgium
Valorization of solid seafood side-streams. Life cycle assessment of an enzymatic hydrolysis technology to recover flavoring agents from salmon backbones
  •  Ann-Dorit Moltke Sørensen, DTU - Technical University of Denmark, Denmark
Production of savoury ingredient, an upcycling route for cod backbone
  •  Monica Gutierrez, AZTI, Spain
Production of savory compounds from mussel cooking water side-stream
  •  Carlos Bald, AZTI, Spain
Production of savoury compounds from salmon processing side-streams
  •  Bruno Iñarra Chastagnol, AZTI, Spain
Production of bioactive compounds from fish discards
  •  Grethe Hyldig, DTU - Technical University of Denmark, Denmark
Does the consumer have any barriers and/or motives for new ingredients produced from seafood side-streams?
  •  Ingrid Undeland, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden
The seafood process water biorefinery -from waste to value (includes WaSeaBi results as well as results from other projects)

  • Ann-Dorit Moltke Sørensen, DTU - Technical University of Denmark, Denmark
Recovery of protein and phosphorus from cod processing waters using flocculation

The WEFTA conference is where food scientists, PhD students and fish processing industries meet to present their latest research achievements and share valuable experiences in the field of fish industry and aquatic products, quality and safety.
